bio:
Originally from Tucson, Arizona, Arthur Vint began studying music seriously at the age of 12 and by the time he was 15 was already performing professionally. Among his early mentors were drummer Fred Hayes, percussionist Homero Cerón, and trombonist Doug Tidaback, all of whom were instrumental in his musical growth.
Arthur focused on classical percussion studies throughout high school and was a member of the Tucson Philharmonia Youth Orchestra for four seasons, three of which he served as principal percussionist. He also was a member of what has now become the Tucson Jazz Institute, gaining invaluable experience playing in big bands and small groups with his peers. It was also during this time that he started lasting musical relationships with guitarist Matt Mitchell and bassist Scott Black who further opened his ears to the jazz repertoire. He appears on two CDs with the Matt Mitchell Trio.
After finishing high school, Arthur chose to pursue the drum set as a career and was accepted to the jazz studies program at William Paterson University on a Presidential Scholarship. There he has studied with Kevin Norton, Bill Goodwin, Horacee Arnold, Rich DeRosa, Steve LaSpina and Rich Perry.
Arthur has performed everywhere from dive bars to concert halls with an array of different jazz groups, rock bands, country bands, and orchestras. He recently had the pleasure of performing at Carnegie Hall with the New York based JBC Big Band, which also regularly appears at Jazz at Lincoln Center's prestigious Allen Room. Arthur has also been featured in groups at the Montreux, Vienne, Vitoria, and Telluride Jazz Festivals as well as the South by Southwest music festival.
He has performed with such legendary musicians as Joe Lovano, Rich Perry, Dick Oatts, Scott Wendholt, Roy Hargrove, Steve LaSpina, and Brice Winston. He appears on recordings by Naim Amor, Andrew Collberg, Gabe Sullivan, Amy Rude, Matt Mitchell, Marianne Dissard, the Arizona Roadrunners, and his own award winning afrobeat band, the Afrodelic Stegosaurchestra.
The diversity of his musical experiences is what makes Arthur such a unique and adaptable musician. He currently lives in Brooklyn, New York, but still frequents his Arizona home enough to remain a recognizable member of its vibrant art and music scene.
